Here’s why Carlo Laurel vs. Alvin Ramirez is the pseudo-main event of URCC 27: Rebellion (NSFW)

“Samurai” by name; “Douche Boy” through and through

Carlo Laurel dropped his infamous “Douche Boy” moniker to adopt a more respectable (?) alias in “Samurai”.

That doesn’t bode well for this writer.

Instead of asking about his upcoming fight with Alvin “Sindikato” Ramirez, my first question was “Why did you change your nickname?”

Apparently, it was a team decision.

“More than ‘Samurai, I think I like ‘Douche’ better,” replied Laurel in our brief interview. “But it has to be changed para medyo formal ang dating sa mga sponsors. Bale, we just dropped the name, but I kept the attitude. Hahaha!”

And as if to prove a point, “Douche Boy” put an exclamation on a brewing rivalry between him and Ramirez during URCC 27’s press conference at Resorts World Manila last Wednesday, February 17.

There, Laurel did his best impression of Conor McGregor as he tore and chewed a picture of “Sindikato” in front of the press in attendance. MMA Philippines photographer Yin Quintin captured the act as it transpired.

Laurel also insists that Ramirez has “zero ground game,” the aspect of Douche Boy’s MMA game that is most impressive. Coming from the horse’s mouth, “My fighting style, hmm, I don’t know… I just go in there and try to fuck the other guy up!”

And fuck the other guy is exactly what he did when I last saw him, fucking up Myler Empil’s arm in URCC 25.

As for his last fight, a title eliminator against CJ “Goldenboy” De Tomas, Laurel lost via decision, but remains unfazed by the recent drawback. “With my last fight with CJ, I believe I won that fight. Just give me one or two more rounds and I can finish him. Believe that!”

And while he may be dumping heaps of trash on Ramirez leading to their April 23 clash, Laurel knows Ramirez is no walk in the park. “Expect a long night of back and forth action. I’m expecting blood!”

As for Ramirez, well, this is what he has to say over Laurel’s recent shenanigans:

Poser! Thank you sa URCC at kay Sir Alfred Gealogo dahil tinapat sakin ‘tong batang ‘to. Turuan ng leksyon nang tumahimik ang bunganga. Bakbakan na!

And THIS is probably Douche Boy’s reaction to that post.

URCC 27: Rebellion may have five championship bouts lined up, (contrary to previous reports, Eddie Estrada vs. Fritz Biagtan is for the URCC pinweight title, in addition to Romero vs. Lee for featherweight, Chope vs. Redman for lightweight, Morikawa vs. De Tomas for flyweight, and Hoffman vs. Baduria for light heavyweight,) but I’ll be there extra early in case Laurel vs. Ramirez gets slated for the first part of fight night. URCC 27 is the first of many events to be held in Resorts World Manila as the longest-running MMA promotion in Asia signed a lucrative partnership with the casino and entertainment giant at the start of 2016.

  1. […] In three days’ time, Alvin Ramirez and Carlo Laurel will get inside the URCC cage for a non-title flyweight bout. Despite the card having five title bouts lined up for the audience at the Marriott Grand Ballroom Saturday night of April 23, no other fight is being talked about as much as Ramirez vs. Laurel, perhaps because of the events that snowballed from this one.
