Fresh off the kickboxing clinic he put on Big Rigg, Wonderboy is coming to Manila!
Less than two months after the UFC signed with Cignal TV as their exclusive broadcast partner in the Philippines, Filipino UFC fans will be served instant gratification as Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson, currently the #3 ranked welterweight fighter in the UFC, will be visiting the Philippines for a week-long media tour. The said tour will have Thompson appear in a series of activities and TV guestings, culminating in a public workout session at the SM Mall of Asia on February 25, Thursday.
Thompson is best known for his insane kickboxing record – an undefeated streak of 57 wins – which made UFC fans instantly take notice when he joined the promotion in 2012. The “Wonderboy” hype train was derailed by Matt Brown, the second of The Immortal’s mean 7-fight win streak.
Since the loss, Thompson himself racked up 6 straight wins – 4 by KO/TKO – culminating in this month’s single-round beatdown of former welterweight champion Johny “Big Rigg” Hendricks. The win raised Wonderboy’s MMA record to 12-1 (7-1 in the UFC) and bolstered him up the welterweight rankings, sitting comfortably in the #3 spot and heavily favored to challenge current welterweight king Robbie Lawler next. (Welterweight #2 Tyrone Woodley has been inactive for more than a year after his scheduled bout against Hendricks was scrapped due to the latter’s weight-cutting woes.)
Catch Stephen Thompson from February 22 to 26 as he invades Manila for the UFC’s first media tour under Cignal TV. Tune in to Hyper Channel, Ch 53 and Hyper HD, Ch 130 for more news on the event.
